From A.E. Dimond on April 23, 2005: I once made a promise to the soldiers featured in my book that I would personally visit each of their hometowns. I felt that the story ought to be taken to those families and communities that shaped such bravery, and my first commitment ought to be to those who have continued to display uncommon valor. Since the release of the book on Veteran's Day, 2004, I've had the privilege of visiting 12 states, many of which lay claim to the hometowns of both the fallen and surviving soldiers featured in My County to Defend. I wish to express my gratitude to those who opened their hearts and homes to honor what Captain Brian Johnson of the Outlaw Platoon once called "a few humble soldiers." I've seen the best of my countrymen in the past months and, at the conclusion of this special part of my tour and my career, I can only say thank you, and may God continue to bless America.
